Every parish is required to have a parish pastoral council. This council is to aid the pastor in his duties as the leader of the parish. Typically, a parish pastoral council helps set priorities, establish policies, and works on planning for the future. Committees of the council may be involved with liturgy, evangelization, parish maintenance, charitable endeavors, etc. The pastor is de jure the president of the council. Members elected in December 2003: Ex officio members: Officers Elected January 2004: The parish council usually meets quarterly, starting in January, on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.Any member of the parish who wishes to attend the meetings is welcome, but only council members may vote. Every parish is required to have a finance committee. This committee helps the pastor manage parish finances. The pastor is required to make regular reports on his stewardship of financial resources to this body. Before he can authorize large expenditures of money, buy or sell parish property, or invest parish funds, he must consult this committee, and in some cases (defined by Church Law) receive their approval. At the present time, the members of the Finance Committee are: Sacred Scripture reminds us that God made man the “steward of creation”. By this we mean that God placed the earth in our care. We are responsible for it. He will hold us accountable for it. God gives us life, time, and abilities. We are stewards of these things, too. Many parishes have established “stewardship committees” to help people understand that they are to use their “time, talent, and treasure” according to their faith. In other words, we are to allocate our time, our energy and special abilities, and our material resources based on the teachings of our Catholic religion. Our stewardship committee here at All Saints is brand new. We are hoping that in the years to come it will be of great benefit to the parish. We cannot have a fully active Catholic parish without the sacraments, especially the Eucharist, and we cannot have the Eucharist without a priest. Vocations to the priesthood come from God, but it is up to us to nourish those vocations, and to encourage young people to accept those vocations. The Vocation Committee of All Saints Parish tries to find ways to remind people to pray God to send vocations to the priesthood to our parish. It also tries to find ways to encourage the young men and boys of the parish to keep their minds and hearts open to God’s call. The Vocation Committee is a new organization in the parish. If you would be interested in being a part of this committee, please call Tom or Ann Knox 485-6209. The Altar Society is probably the oldest organization in the parish. No one can remember a time when the Altar Society did not exist. It was formed to help care for the sanctuary of the church, and to furnish what was necessary for the altar. To obtain the necessary funds to carry out their mission, the members of the Altar Society have conducted various activities over the years: bingo, bake sales, boutiques, etc. For the last few years, the members of the Altar Society have generously expanded the scope of their mission. They have helped with projects and were especially helpful in furnishing the new church. The pastors of All Saints have always been able to approach the members of the Altar Society for help with a variety of needs and they have never been disappointed. All the women of the parish are automatically members of the Altar Society. The society holds its meetings on the second Monday evening of the month. From time to time families in the parish may need assistance. The Hands of Mercy Committee contacts these families and tries to meet all their needs. When a parishioner dies, the Bereavement Committee will contact the family to see what help they can provide. The members of this committee work closely with the Altar Society and have been of great service to the parish. For more information about this committee, please contact Coreen Hooper at 384-4682. Several years ago an Italian priest by the name of Fr. Gobbi became convinced that Our Blessed Mother was calling him to establish a movement of priests. The priests were to meet regularly for prayer and put themselves completely at the service of Mary. Not long after he founded this movement, Fr. Gobbi founded an “auxiliary”, that is, a movement of lay people, dedicated to the Blessed Mother, with the special task of praying for priests. Of course, other intentions are often added to the list of prayer concerns. The Prayer Group here at All Saints is open to all. The members meet for a Holy Hour on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the church. The Rosary Guild makes rosaries for sale, and for distribution to missions which have requested them. They have also provided rosaries to be given as gifts for special parish occasions, and for the pastor to give to those he visits in the hospital. The group usually meets on Wednesday afternoons in the old convent meeting room. For more information, call Chris Disibio. 485-1455. Many years ago a “prayer line” was begun in the parish. If you have a special intention you would like other parishioners to pray with you about, please call Cyndie Greis at 485-4476 or 485-7354 and she will be happy to help you. There is no more powerful force on earth than prayer! It is very important that those who cannot be present for Sunday Mass, and who cannot come to church for the Sacrament of Penance and Reconcilitation (Confession), are visited in their homes. Please contact the parish office if a member of your household is ill, so arrangements can be made. St. Elizabeth and St. Luke Hospitals are very limited in their ability to provide the parish with information on patients due to State and Federal Privacy Laws. If a member of your household is in the hospital, please notify the parish office. As the population of the area grows, more and more new families will be joining All Saints Parish. As a parish we should make sure these new families are welcomed. Ann Knox formed the Parish Welcome Committee in the year 2000. Here at All Saints, we have one day a week, Thursday, when the church is kept open all day and the Blessed Sacrament is exposed on the altar. It is a special time for the parish, a special time of grace. If you can commit to a particular time to be present in church for Adoration, please sign up in the book in the vestibule, or contact Vicki Russo at 472-7003. Parish Library The Parish Library is open after the Saturday and Sunday Masses. Come in, browse, and find some great books, audios and videos. Volunteers are needed, especially after the Saturday evening Mass; contact Mary Lonneman (689-5118) or Mary Glenker (485-2087). Schoenstatt The Enthronement of our Schoenstatt Picture of Grace took place on Saturday, November 1, 2003, within a Schoenstatt Mass celebrated by Fr. Gerold Langsch, a Schoenstatt priest from Corpus Christi, Texas, assisted by Fr. Schulte. Those who had been preparing to make their Covenant of Love (a consecration to Mary) also made it that day.
