Weddings

Wedding Guidelines:

"Planning Your Wedding At All Saints" brochure available in the literature racks in the vestibule or can be acquired by calling the parish office at (859) 485-4476. You'll want to read this!  It supersedes any of the following if there is any disagreement.

May 30, 2004 bulletin: I have heard a few strange rumors recently and so I think it is time to let all of you know exactly what our policy is in regard to weddings in our church. Weddings can be scheduled any day of the week except Sunday. They can be scheduled in any liturgical season of the year except for Lent. On any day of the week except for Saturday or Sunday, weddings can be scheduled at any time from 2:00 pm until 7:30 p.m. Because you have voted to begin our celebration of Sunday by having our first Sunday Mass at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, weddings cannot be scheduled on Saturdays any later than 3:00 p.m. Members of families who are registered and have been supporting the parish pay no fee for the use of the church. Others are expected to pay a fee.

So if you have heard that we do not allow weddings here, or that we do not allow evening weddings, or that we are charging everybody $1000 to get married here, then you have been listening to people  who are spreading falsehood.

As a Catholic Parish, All Saints follows the teachings of the Church concerning the Sacrament of Matrimony. (Catechism of the Catholic Church on Marriage) The parish is bound by the laws on marriage established by the Catholic Church for the whole world (Code of Canon Law re: Sacrament of Matrimony) and by laws and guidelines established by the Bishop of Covington for this diocese.

Since the understanding of marriage which the Catholic Church has is so different from that of the secular world, anyone considering marriage in the Church should take some time to look at the links included above.

The following are the basic wedding guidelines for our parish:

Who can be married at All Saints Church?

Any member of the parish who is free to marry, as far as the Catholic Church is concerned, has the right to celebrate this sacrament in the parish church. Members of other parishes who may wish to use our facilities are welcome, but they must have the permission of their pastor, and they must arrange for their pastor or another priest other than the pastor of All Saints to officiate at their wedding.

Are all weddings celebrated within a Mass?

No. Catholics who are marrying Catholics are encouraged to have their wedding within Mass, but are not required to do so. Catholics who are marrying baptized non-Catholics can be given permission to have their weddings during Mass, but Catholics who have chosen to marry non-baptized persons may not have their wedding within a Mass.

What is the preferred time for weddings?

Since the parish has a Saturday evening Mass, we would prefer that weddings celebrated on Saturday be held earlier in the day. The ideal time would be between noon and 2:00 p.m. We realize, however, that some flexibility is required in this matter and so couples are encouraged to discuss the time for the ceremony with the pastor before any final arrangements are made.

How far in advance do we need to notify the parish of our plans to marry?

The Diocese of Covington requires all couples wishing to marry in the Catholic Church to notify the parish in which they wish to celebrate their wedding at least six months in advance of the hoped for date. This is so that the parish may provide the couple with a good spiritual preparation for the celebration of this holy sacrament. We realize that there are circumstances in which exceptions to this general rule must be considered. Please feel free to discuss this with the pastor.

Please call Cyndie Greis at the parish office (859) 485-4476 to check on the availability of the church and to set up a time to begin preparations with the pastor. Fr. Schulte likes to meet three times with couples planning to marry.

Natural Family Planning (NFP)

Natural Family Planning is a safe, healthy, moral and 99% effective method of family planning. This is a part of the wedding preparation for anyone who wishes to marry at All Saints Church. All couples are invited and urged to learn more about this method of family planning. For information and schedule for future classes, contact Jim and Joan Noll (859) 341-9063.

How do we make arrangements for the use of the parish hall?

Please call Art or Pam Reekers at (859) 485-4975 to make your arrangements.

What are the parish regulations concerning music?

Whether or not couples wish to use the services of the parish musicians, they should contact Mrs. Lori Flerlage (859) 824-4882 to discuss the parish’s guidelines concerning the choice of music for the ceremony.

If the couple wishes to have the parish organist provide the music for the wedding, the fee is  $75.00.

Is there a fee for the use of the church?

Other than the “security / clean up” deposit (see below), there is no fee for the use of the church for registered and regularly contributing parishioners and their children. Those who are not registered or for whom the parish has no record of regular contributions are required to pay a fee of $1000. The fee must be paid before a date can be reserved and is refundable should wedding plans change.

What is the usual stipend for the priest?

No stipend is required and none will be requested, but if the couple wishes to give a gift to the priest, a customary amount is $100.

Security / Clean-up Deposit

All couples who arrange for a wedding at All Saints are responsible for any damage done to the church by their guests. They are also responsible for cleaning up after the ceremony (i.e. removing runners, extra candles, programs, boxes, tissues, film cartridges, etc. and thoroughly cleaning up any confetti or rice thrown outside the church [throwing rice or confetti inside the church is strictly forbidden]) As a protection for the parish, a deposit of $100 will be required of all those who wish to use the church for a wedding (in addition to the fee charged to out-of-parish couples). If the church is found to be in good order after the ceremony, the deposit will be happily refunded by the parish secretary.

Photographs / Videos

The taking of photographs and videos during the wedding ceremony is permissible. The couple should choose a photographer/videographer who can be trusted not to interfere with the ceremony. Couples are urged to keep the time for the picture taking session after the ceremony as brief as possible. A professional, well-organized photographer should be able to complete the session in a half hour. Couples are reminded that their guests will be waiting for them at the reception and so not to prolong the session.
